The foundation of the large and thriving plastics business that Lee Huat Plastics Industries Sdn Bhd (LHPI) conducts at present were laid by the founder, Mr. Chen Kow Fatt, in 1947.
Like most of the other pioneers of trade and industry in Malaysia , the elder Chen was a man of humble origin. Using the simplest of tools and materials, including an indefatigable supply of initiative, common sense and a flair for fabricating good and articles out of readily salvaged material, the elder Chen took advantage of an incidental shortage in bicycle parts and accessories to produce a small supply of bicycle stands, rear reflectors and the likes to supplement his income.
Using a rudimentary hand-powered molding machine and recycled plastic hangers and other similar material as feedstock, the elder Chen was soon able make satisfactory progress in his plastic making business, making drawer handles and other items as well as bicycle parts and accessories as and when the need and opportunity arose. In due course, he built up a sizable business as a maker of assorted plastic goods, fittings and accessories.

By the mid-1950's, the company started plastics operations in Malaysia, a move which will make the company what it is today - a regional presence in the plastics industry. After the elder Chen retired in 1969, his second son, and current Chairman, Mr. Tony Chen took over the business.
Cut from the same cloth as his father, Mr. Tony Chen had the business acumen as well as a keen understanding of the importance modern machinery played in production. Soon, the company acquired its first modern injection molding machine from Japan. More would soon be needed with the production demands on the company rapidly rising.
After shifting operations to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia in 1978, the company was able to utilize the many modern infrastructures of a fast developing nation and by the 1980s began exports to the Asia Pacific region as well as to the United States.
As the demand for high-quality plastics that could pass even the most stringent of international standards grew, so did the reputation and the business of the company. A 70,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant in Kepong Baru opened in 1990.
However, as the decade progressed, it was evident that an even bigger and more sophisticated factory would soon be needed. It arrived in 2002, when the company moved to its current home, an advanced 170,000 sq. ft facility in Shah Alam with state-of-the-art modern equipment with highly trained & highly skilled personnel.
Today, Lee Huat Plastics Industries Sdn. Bhd. continues to provide its clients and customers with excellent support, research and development knowledge as well as the same high-quality, creative and innovative products. It is a legacy and proud heritage that will continue well into the future. |
